HIDs. Where do you draw the line with color?
Okay,
Lately I've been seeing cars running around with ridiculous colored HID kits on their cars. To be honest, not only do I find them annoying but also bad for the looks of cars at night. So where do you draw the line on HID color? I personally think that anything darker than 6000k is too much. Once you go above that, the looks of the HIDs is just plain fake. I know a lot of people run darker and like them but to me it's just overkill.
FYI: I run a Phillips 4300K kit in my high beams and 6000k in my fogs. I do not use them both at the same time.

i've got the 8000k hid's from nathan at ledgauges.com they look badass to me and thats as high as i would go, as far as blinding people i have had no one flash their high beams at me. I spent a good 30 minutes ajusting mine and got them where i wanted them. You can see some pics in my fquick garage but like always the camera makes the glare worse than it really is

6000k is where anyone should draw the line. After that you start losing "light performance." As cool as bright violet colors may be, they are horrible for your eyes, if you want pretty blue just get color coated halogen bulbs. If you want the look of a lambo , bmw, or mercedes, just do a correct retrofit with a good projector!

I run 5000K because its the factory kelvin temp that Cadillac uses and it looks like it almost oem. Anything over 6,000k is stupid if your buying your xenons to actually see better.

10k both of which from a non sponser but are different color one set in my 05 sivlerado the other in the bird. the truck set is more whiteish blue the car is a little more violet which is what i wanted. but reguardless of bulb temp the houseing can play a big difference in color if your not running projectors.
i have never been bright lighted or told my headlights are blinding other than when i get behind people in my truck sitting in traffic, but any truck does that so i take it with a grain of salt. so i guess im just stupid

I bought 10k thinking i'd like a little bluer color, but if i were to do it again, i'd get 6,500K. This is too blue.. They do however, even at 10k, improve visibility a TON. I no longer use my high beams. I even get flashed once a night with them w/ factory projectors on my olds daily driver... I cant imagine how many times i'd be flashed by on-coming traffic/cops if I had any brighter.. Anyone else have this problem?
Here are my pics: (Olds Aurora w/ factory projectors)

I could go on for hours, but like I tell everyone...
If you have prjectors the 4300K is the best. You get a nice crisp white light with the "rainbow" effect at the cut-off.
If you have halogen reflectors (F and Y Body) then the 6000K and 8000K are the most popular. The 4300K has the most light, but in the halogen housings it still looks a little on the yellow (stock) side. The 6000K is going to be pure white, in the TA's its going to have a little more blue because of the housing. The 8000K is going to have more blue in both, and if you compare them side by side (which I have done many times) you cannot tell the light difference between them. Now I am not saying they have the same amount of light, they dont, but with a human eye you cannot tell a difference in the light output, just the color.
Now once you get into the 10-12 range you can tell the light loss, and you can definetly see more color. But either way you will be getting more light than your stock halogens.
I like them all, and I switch bulbs regularly, but IMO the 6000K and 8000K are my favorites.

i get flashed all the time in my dakota, im running silverstars (regulars) in my high/lows and fogs....it was a major improvement from the stockers, but are starting to fade...ive had some contact with nathan, and this summer plan on buying a kit for both, high/low (duel purpose bulb) and fogs...i dont care about color, i just want the most light on the road...from the sound of it, i would want one thats within 4300 and 6000 or 8000, am i correct....also, they arnt projectors...

With my projectors and 4300k setup in the GTO I have never once gotten flashed because my lights were too bright. When I'm behind a car in traffic I can see the sharp cutoff of the main light output on most cars just below their trunk lid body line. The biggest thing with HIDs to me is the extra light output you get outside of the main beam pattern.
Didn't know that about halogen reflectors yellowing a 4300-5000k bulb temperature. I like a pure white light so I'd probably go 6000k in a F-Body or Vette.
