Default T/A Hatch on V6?

Hey guys...will a T/A hatch go right on a V6 bird? I HATE the V6 spoiler and need to do something about it.

TA hatches are about 50 lbs. heavier than the formula hatch, so you may have to swap out the lifters, depending on how old they are

I wouldn't go as far as saying 50lbs. I've done the swap and I'd say at most 10lbs. The shocks will support the hatch just fine, but after a good 5 minutes they will SLOWLY start to fall.

The hatches are directly swappable. There is power clip that is located right next to your dome light. It powers the third brake light and the rear-defroster. You will have to either cut the wires and splice the new ones on or unclip the power clip and plug the new clip in. Once you've done that its as easy as screwing down 2 nuts. Also note that the trim on the new hatch may not match your old trim. It's pretty easy to swap that out. If you need any help PM me and I can take some pics for you.

hmm, wish I could find the source saying TA hatches are much heavier than formula ones, but it escapes me for now...so I guess i'll have to concede that point to you

haha, it's ok. They are heavier, that's no doubt, but it's really not that much.

T/A hatches are definitely heavier. Any T/A hatch from 1993-2002 will fit any Firebird or Firebird Formula from 1993-2002. Please keep in mind that the third brake light wiring plug changed in the 1998-2002 models. I ran into that problem installing a 2002 T/A hatch on a 1994 Firebird Formula. I had to cut off both plugs and splice the wires together. Definitely one of the best mods you can do to a Firebird. Those Firebird hatches are UGLY!

I think what kills the formula/V6 hatch is the missing spoiler.

Also, the real weight differance should be the T/A spoiler, and I doubt it weights 50lbs.

You'd have better luck selling it in the "For Sale" section
