Default whats with all the water spots??

ok well my car is black and since ive owned it at 25k miles ive noticed water spots....when it rains and then when i wash the car if i let it air dry...now these arnt your normal rub off water spots these seem to like inbed themselves in my clear coat? the spot will go away when i rub at it but it will leave a ring that is basically the perimeter of the water spot. why is this happening? is there any way of stopping it? is this normal? i know when i bought my car it seemed as if for the 1st 25k miles the previous owner had never waxed it as the paint was pretty rough to the touch...now ive buffed and polished it and wax it every week probably but like i said the minute water gets on it it leaves little water spots....

Water beads up on a waxed surface, and when it dries, it leaves spots. When the paint was rough, the water didn't bead up and didn't have this problem. You need to dry the car with towels when you wash it...this is the only way to get a spot free shine.

x2 spot free. wash the car at home then take it to one of those drive in do-it-yourself places and just give it a spot-free rinse and rub the waterspots off with a towel. then go floor it on the hwy and let the car dry itself. then you can just wipe off any left over marks with a terry cloth. very easy!

just get some nice shamois....the minerals in tap water cause the water spots....when i wash, dry the car with a quick wipe down to get major spots and water off....then take your time with a shamois and go over the car.... i dont get it, so everytime you wash your car you let it air dry????? weird....

Spot free rinse, than dry immediately. After that, I like to take some Wizards Mist-N-Shine and just lightly spray and wipe it with a microfiber towell. No more spots and the car will shine like new!

Who lets a black car air dry? There's dirt in tap water that causes the spots.

hard water will cause deposits on the surface, and a strong acidity in the rain will do that, as well. and if you're from Massachusetts, I bet the acid rain up there is KILLER!

Get some good microfiber waffle weave towels to dry with. Try using a claybar to get rid of the water spots. I've got some on my hood that just wont come out period. Wetsanding may be in order.

If they're the same water spots every time (i.e. not new spots from the latest rain/wash), you need to claybar or polish them out. Over time, water spots that are left alone can etch your clear coat. A claybar session should take care of those.

If it's new water spots each time, then it's a problem with your drying technique. You might try a quick detailing spray while drying, to keep the surface lubricated. Also, avoid washing and drying in direct sunlight, if possible.

I use Mr. Clean Autodry filtered water for the final rinse and STILL run around like a maniac with a microfiber waffle-weave to make sure no water dries...

Some still get me by surprise, especially from the ENDLESS water supply that drips intermittently out from under the center tail panel onto the rear bumper.

Or you could always do the leaf blower method to drying the car lol, it works and you look like a crazy person doing it.

I actually prefer washing my car just after sunset. There's no shade on my driveway. Cool and dark makes for no water spots. A simple drive around the block or down the street helps alot with the water coming out from between the bumper and taillights.
