Default Flat Black?

Well I've come to the decision that I'm tired of gloss black on the WS6, it just seems to attract accidents. Its got quite a few scratches and I do bodywork for a living anyways. So I figured to change it to flat black since the paint job would only cost $300 plus materials. I think it would look good especially with the chrome Z06 wheels, kinda old school muscle car look. Tell me what you think.

I think it would look good, but flat black is one of my favorite colors of all time.

I don't think it looks good personally on nice cars like late model camaros and trans ams. Flat black belongs on old cars. I hate getting scratches too, but I think it would look retarded.

First of all, I personally like the idea... ALTHOUGH, others probably won't.

Here's the thing, I think car people fall into two categories:

1) Those who like Hot Rods (fiberglass bodied, billet and chromed out Boyd Coddington creations)...

2) And those who like Rat Rods (steal parts from other cars because they just work, flat paint, bare bones looks cool but more sinister like it's on a mission)...

I'm TRYING to get a mix of both on my car (Z06 rims, flat black accents, dropped as hell in the front, etc...) but for the most part the appearance guys on here are more about the bling so I'm going to assume you will get more "HELL NO" responses

Anyways, to show it CAN look good here's a pic of the GMPP LS7 Camaro:

I personally think its gonna look good. I'm all about the rat rod look, thats always been my one of my favorite looks. The only chrome I like would be the wheels, I'm not a fan of all the fancy appearance stuff but thats just me I guess.

I want to do the same thing, but I was thinking satin, IMHO flat black can look pretty dirty after it rains. I gotta do something about the paint its horrable. Well see when the car is paid off in 4 months.

that looks a satin black, not flat mark

a flat black TA would look so sinister....but if it's a traditional flat black..i don't know. a satin i could def see looking bad ***! theres a guy who has (i thinkits a 96 w/a 98+ front clip) camaro thats flat black with red pin stripes..actually, i think its 2 tone flats..but i don't remember, the combo didn't look spectactular, but then again i've just never been a fan of his car

There's a flat black 98+ firebird running around here, i'll try to get a picture of it to show you how bad it looks... sorry to burst your bubble. I've had the same idea, but it just doesn't work on our cars. I hate having my car get scratches. Why not just make it look like a POS all the time then!

My bad, satin. I always made an effort to change the term when I saw it used improperly (in Berger discussions I would always say, "Don't use flat, use satin or semi-gloss" and everyone is always like, "That's what I meant...") but now have found myself a victim of the community using the word improperly myself

Well the way I'm doing flat black thats gonna have the flat clear over it to protect it. BTW I like driving a car that looks unfinished, I'm just looking for something different then the rest. Next paintjob will be something different, maybe lamborghini orange, I already got the paint sitting here just don't feel like using it.

There is actually someone on here rocking the flat-black on their Camaro. The thread was not to long ago, so you might be able to find it with a quick search.

That's why he said he likes, "the rat rod look"...

Are cars aren't vintage either but plenty of people like the vintage look and do similar mods (Berger panel for example)...

Regardless, here's from the definition on Wikipedia:

"Recently, the "Rat Rod" can be somewhat described as a label loosely applied to most any vehicle that appears unfinished or is built simply to be driven, without any concern for cosmetics, whether or not the vehicle would even have been customised or even existed during the early days of Hot Rodding."
