Default Help me detail! (pics)

A friend of mine asked me to clean up his Roadrunner for a car show. So over the next couple of days I'll be working on cleaning up the car.

The first job I have to do is clean up the engine...but I have a slight problem...how do I get all the dirt off of the intake manifold? It seems to be stuck on...

Any help would be awesome!

And here is what the car looks like now - it will be miles better after some Zaino!

If that doesn't work, I'm assuming the intake is Aluminum, if so try some 3M aluminum polish and a rag or dremel with a polishing bit.

I will give those things a try in the next couple of days.

I took the car around the block (it's a 4 speed car) and OH MY GOD. You don't need a gym membership with that car. My left leg got a serious workout - so did my arms. Super nice car though - and the owner is a real nice guy!

lol, thats what non-hydrualic/power steering will do

If the intake is aluminum, I'd def get some sort of aluminum polish and hit it up after some degreasing. Being carbed, you might be able to remove it a little easier then an EFI setup, and brighten that thing up on its own.

Looks like a well maintained car from the pics.

ive heard that simple green can harm aluminum, not sure id use it. i read a disclaimer a while back from the company about certain metals that it can cause to deteriorate.

Not necessarily countering your opinion, but here's direct from the SG FAQ -

Aluminum - Is it safe to use Simple Green on aluminum?
Simple Green products have been successfully and safely used on aircraft, automotive, industrial and consumer aluminum items for over 20 years. However, caution and common sense must be used: Aluminum is a soft metal that easily corrodes with unprotected exposure to water. The aqueous-base and alkalinity of Simple Green or Crystal Simple Green can accelerate the corrosion process. Therefore, contact times of All-Purpose Simple Green and Crystal Simple Green with unprotected or unpainted aluminum surfaces should be kept as brief as the job will allow - never for more than 10 minutes. Large cleaning jobs should be conducted in smaller-area stages to achieve lower contact time. Rinsing after cleaning should always be extremely thorough - paying special attention to flush out cracks and crevices to remove all Simple Green/Crystal Simple Green residues. Unfinished, uncoated or unpainted aluminum cleaned with Simple Green products should receive some sort of protectant after cleaning to prevent oxidation.

thanks, thats exactly what ive read before. maybe its just me, but that would scare me away from using it, especially when you can use stuff like engine brite.

It looks like oxidation to me, id clean it and then repaint it with high heat engine paint.
