Default Nasty musty smell in car??

How do you guys get rid of musty smells, say if like someone who smelled owned the car before you? Im sure you all know what im talkin about, you know how some peoples houses have "that smell" to them? Well my car was bought from a guy whose house had "that smell" so in return his car had "that smell". Anyways, just wondering how to get it out. Ive tried shampooing the carpet and upholstery. Any thoughts?

gut it, clean the carpet again, wipe everything down with some nice smelly cleaners. wash the METAL floor sence you have carpet out. get an airfreshener or two and let em rip. that's how i would do it, plus i get to clean...

Start springing for the $20 hookers instead of your normal $5 hookers

Seriously though, have you tried Ozium?

Have your A/C evaporator core cleaned also. BG has a nice service. It costs like a hundred bones but it will make your AC, and therefore the car, smell like new. Combine that with the carpet removal+cleaning, new floormats, and Ozium, and you will have a car that smells new. After you clean the core, spray Lysol into your A/C intakes - below the wipers on fresh air and up under the center of the dash on max/recirc. That will maintain it. You'll be amazed how good your car will smell. If you don't want to buy new floormats, clean 'em with the power washer and dry them completely.

Good luck!

I used to drive and old truck, and I put a bowl of ammonia in there and let it sit for a day or 2, and then drove around with the windows down. I'm not sure why it worked, but the smell never came back. of coarse your car will smell like ammonia for an hour or so, but believe me it works.

A good detail shop should have what it takes to get rid of the odor. Although removing the seats is a good idea, it's not always nessecary!

I once hit a bird with my pillar and it shot inside the car without me knowing... that smell snuck up on me oneday...

But I ozoned it, sucks all the oxygen from inside the cabin for 8 hours and kills all bacteria and odors..

Auto Zone... Most car washes sell it as well. It will be in the air freshener section.
