If you can anew one for approx 12 bucks its worth it. I changed one out on one of my ta's and had to take my other ta apart to see how to mount the spring. I hate to say it but it was kicking my *** at first!
One other suggestion is to put a dab of RTV on the underside of the lid and seal it shut if you never use it. Ive done that before and its easy to undo if you change your mind.

I think I still have the bag with the GM part number in my glove box, it seems like the problem lies in the tension of the spring, looks like it puts too much pressure to operate the console lid, I think getting a spring with less tension there should fix it, but what spring? Maybe one from a retractable pen could work. I'll still look for the part number for the console lid. I'll post it later once I find it.

Nice, thanks!

I may look into just creating a fix for it. Possibly using a metal hinge that is more durable, yet hidden.

Also, there may be a different part # for 2000-2002 with the darker interior plastic?

That's the part available at SDPC. Thanks for the number. I'm going to call up the stealership and see how much they want for it. I have hook ups at the parts department so it might be a little cheaper for me.

Default QUICK Fix!

I guess I'm the only ghetto one in here

GO to autozone or any auto parts store and buy some 3M Velcro. $3 fix and it takes all of one minute. Does anyone, besides those who install switches in there, use the ashtray? I never once used it so now it stays closed FOREVER!

Hey guys! Post prices so we can compare the differences! I didn't use that ashtray much, but it did bother me to see it everyday coverless, coming off, looking at the shifter cable, wires, pieces of carpet, etc. Would you believe the cover almost paid for itself???? Guess how.......

You probably found a 10 or something that had fallen under there. I've found quite a bit of money in my car before.

BeaflagVon hit there! There was so much change in there that when I removed the whole piece to install the new lid, I found a lot of change there! It was like a full refund once I collected all those coins! Post prices if you get a chance!

The crappy plastic tab of a hinge is broken on mine, the spring is still mounted. I've got the cover closed and as long as I don't mess with it it stays put. Not lined up quite right but it is the least of my worries right now.

Maybe I'll fabricate some sort of hinge piece out of a paperclip or something
