resurrection...

this is what i did.

autozone scotch brand velcro = less than 2 bucks out the door. it is over by the permatex.

the ashtray lid has a rubber stopper button deal on the face that you look at when it is closed shut that is closer to the front of the car than the rear. i put the spikey hook on the outside, lower, stepped down lip, hung it over the lip some, and put the loop on the corresponding side with no hangover (trimmed to fit flush) so that the loop doesnt get any noticeable dust or junk in it. i also put the paper i peeled the velcro off of back on the part of the hook side that is hanging over so that adhesive doesnt catch on anything that i do not want it to.

i hope this helps someone in the future and mark me as in the ghetto bunch

My spring broke or poped out. So now it just flops. I just leave it open and set my smokes across it.

Mine was broken when I bought the car. I went to the dealer to get a new one and the parts guy told me you had to buy the hole console $300. I really trust the guy I known him my hole life. the sping hole was broken and the mount on the right side was broken. All I did was take the console out (M6). Drill the holes for the mounting tabs. put small bolts in the holes and tighted the just tight enough to hold the lid up and still be able to move. I did it about 4 months ago and have not had any problems.
