Here is what I did. I bought the MOMO anatomico (short one)shift ****. Then I bought a 1984-1989 corvette auto shift boot. Actually, any auto shift boot will actually do. The corvette auto shift boot was a little too big so I separated it from the metal frame and put a smaller frame on mine.
I then attached the frame to the console and was still able to utilize the plastic sliding pieces for the shifter (so I retained all functions).
As for the shift **** attachment, it is very tricky. I tried the corvette auto shift adapter but was pissed when I received it because it was way too high. So I decided to make my own threaded piece to put on the shifter.
I was able to secure it to the shifter using tiny srews. The main point is to attach it to the plastic piece of the shifter that you push down when changing gears. Because this way, when you push the **** down, you push the plastic piece with it. Otherwise, if you attach it to the metal part of the shifter, you won't be able to move the know down or up. Hence when you turn off the car, you won't be able to take the keys out.
I hope this helps. Sorry for making it kind of confusing.
I am now going to do that, no doubt about it. I hate my shifter!Where can you buy the ****, and also that boot, it looks awesome!
Thanks for any help!

Is their any way you can take a few more detailed picture's? I'm assuming you put the screw through the **** and into the white plastic part of the handle...

Looks KILLER! How much to do mine like that? Actually I got an idea. You do that to my shift **** (labor) and I will port and polish your TB and do the bump stop mod. Deal?

What's up bro ? I'm just finishing up finals. Then I'll depart for Europe. But when I come back, we can do your shifter. I'll have a lot more time at the end of June.

MadIceV8,
Most auto shift boots come attached to a rectangular metal frame to secure to the console. Unfortunately, the corvette shifter opening is longer than the one for the firebird. Thus, I had to find a smaller rectangular frame and attach the shiftboot to that. If you don't want to use the frame, I guess you can glue or staple the bottom of the shift boot directly onto the bottom of the console.
Yes, the shift **** needs to be attached to the white plastic piece in order for you to be able to push it down. I tried attaching it to the metal frame of the shifter (this way I could shift with my hand without pushing down). Unfortunately I realized that the vehicle security system will not allow you to take your keys out of the ignition with the white plastic piece pushed all the way in. So I had to attach it to the plastic part.
Here is where I got my stuff from:
The shift boot is once again a 1984-1989 corvette auto shift boot. Though there are probably other boots out there suited for this application. Someone can try the boot from the new Monte Carlos
