I was going to polish the face of my stock rims but got lazy and just purchased some 35th Anniversary machined face 10 spokes Should be here in a week or so...
Here's the white face gauges and shift **** installed. I cut the shaft on the shifter 3/4". I'm happy with the way everything turned out!

^^cut around the metal tube (black) first at whatever mearurement you want (1 inch at the most!), and then measure the exact same length on the white peice once the black peice has been cut and cut it...

I cut where the keyways are for the clip that holds your stock **** on. I cut the same amount off the plastic shaft. Then I extended the groove on the metal shaft 3/4" with a small carbide endmill. You have to be careful not to damage the plastic shaft!
