I like the flat foam (non-CCS) 5.5'' Lake Country pads but I still have an assortment of 6.5'' and 4'' pads. I can't tell you what to use but I hardly use my yellow pads and frequently use my orange and white pads. I use my (6.5'') black pads for applying glazes and blue pads for applying wax.
Each polish will have a different level of abrasives so it's hard to tell the exact polish you'll need without seeing the car. I have my favorite polishes but perhaps you should check with Tropi-Care since they're a sponsor. The chart below might give you some more guidance. Anything above 7 and you'll probably need a rotary.

We carry an extensive series of 6.5" Lake Country CCS series foam buffing pads for use with the PC or UDM machines.
It is recommended to start out with the least aggressive combination and increase only as needed to get your desired result. The yellow pad and rubbing combination such as 3M Perfect-It II is the most aggressive of the series and can inflict some micro-marring(hazing of the clear coat with tiny scratches). The firm, dense orange pads will correct a broad range of mild-moderate surface defects including swirl marks, holograms and fine scratches while the white foam polishes and refines the surface before applying your non-abrasive protection product.
If you're new to this activity, it will take a little time to learn the capabilities of the machine and pads. It will be a trial and evaluation as you use these different combinations until you get the desired effect. Machine speed and rate of movement across the surface will also affect your results.
