Default Chrome bumper restoration?

I know this project does not involve my F Body but I want to get some opinions of what you all recommend.... I'm taking my T Type to get it painted next week so I'm pulling the bumpers this week. What should I use to get the chrome to "pop" again? The bumpers are not pitted just a bit dull from the years. I was figuring a high speed buffer??? compound???? What have you guys used or know of that would work well to bring some life back to them? TIA -Adam

The very fine stuff--it works.

You could also just have them re-chromed.

Regular old coke(yes, the stuff you drink) and steel wool. I remeber on mythbusters it got a nasty old truck bumper looking pretty nice, better than the chrome polish they tried.

Although I'd just get them rechromed if you are going to take them off and are spending a few grand on a paint job. Might as well replace/rechrome/refurbish all the other exterior trim while you are at it.

just go to a hardware store and look at the back of the steel wool packages and see which one is for buffing chrome and finished woods i believe it is either the 0000 or 000 grade and just go to town it works good and for chrome pieces the steel wool or some toothpaste works good and just use it like you would polish. good luck
