Default DETAIL: Menzerna SIP + Tropi Care TC-3 Sealant vs. Ford GT

Yesterday I had the chance to do the initial detail on this sapphire GT for a local customer. After a thorough wash/rinse to removal light dust and road grime, I used the gray Clay Magic claybar on the surface to remove any contaminants before any buffing. The surface had minimal except for some tar residue on the fenders behind the wheels.

A second rinse was done after clay bar and dried off before any buffing was done. Some fine scratches were evident on the surface and this gave me a chance to the use the Menzerna "Super Intensive Polish". For this car, I used the UDM equipped with a lightly moistened orange CCS buffing pad at speed 5 and moving at the rate of 1"/second across the surface for correction.

Once satisfied with the results for today, I rinsed the surface once again to remove the light SIP dust residue which settled in the nook and crannies of the car. The SIP has no protective abilities as it does not contain any wax or silicone. In addition, it finished down squeaky clean with no micro-marring. To complete the treatment, I used the TC-3 Sealant xP applied with the blue CCS pad at speed 3.

At 80 degrees, the product hazed quickly and wiped off easily with our blue microfiber polish towel. To complete the exterior, the tires were dressed with our water based dressing.

Comments and questions welcomed.

Thanks.

I saved the wheels for last after washing the other surfaces with the TC car wash concentrate. Dedicated wash mitt for wheels/wheel wells.

Very nice Steve. How bad was the orange peel on the GT?

The orange peel was pretty as typical as compared to other factory finishes.

If you're looking to remove orange peel via wet sanding, contact me for details on this style of sand paper. It is not listed on the website.

We do have a limited quantity available for sale at this time. The foam block is 2-9/16" and 4-5/16" long with just a shade under 2" thick. There are 3 block styles available ranging in price from $6.85 -$13.26 each. The sand paper is available in grits of 2000, 2500, and 3000. It features a self adhesive backing for attachment to the block face. The paper priced at $1.41/sheet is extremely thin and flexible to allow for smooth attachment to the block.

These products need to be used with caution especially when working around corners or near ridges. With our use, these provided a very uniform sanding haze with no deeper scratches evident.

This block ($13.26 each) is equipped with the hard face to remove orange peel when equipped with the dry 2000 grit sandpaper.

The block(about $11.50) has both a hard pink face for blocking and leveling surfaces and soft face for use with the wet 2500 and 3000 grit sandpaper. Using detail spray made for quite a smooth operation compared to straight water.

This block ($6.85) features a soft face for use with the wet 2500 and 3000 grit sandpaper. These grits are designed to remove ultra fine lines and blemishes but will not remove factory orange peel.

The lubricity of detail spray can help the pad spin easier on the surface during the buffing.

I lightly moisten the orange pad with distilled water to minimize any micro-marring and excessive dusting when using products such as Menzerna or Swirl Cutter. The distilled water won't leave any spotting or streaking on the surface if it dries. Treat the water and abrasive product as your lubricant when using the buffing pad on the surface. If you don't have enough of either, drying buffing and micro-marring could occur at the higher machine speeds.
