Default $4 chrome gauge bezel trim mod

I've always liked the newer cars with the chrome trim around the gauges so I figured out how to do it on the TA. I kind of rushed through this mainly as a proof of concept, but maybe I'll refine it more when I have some time. Basically, I took the thinnest chrome door trim bought from your favorite auto supply store, trimmed the length to fit and worked it around the interior of the bezel opening. You have the be careful to really get the trim snug to the bezel so it doesn't catch the needles when they sweep up. So 4 bucks and about 30 minutes later...

Here's a closer pic. Like I said, this was just to see if it could be done, so it could use some tweaks to make it look more factory

I am not trying to be mean, but man that looks awful. Take that crap off and get you a chrome bezel if you want one. That honestly looks like you spent "4 bucks and about 30 minutes" on it.

I was cringing when I was reading it, but when I saw the pics, it doesn't look too bad...for a home-done job and being a test fit. You could do the other gauges too but you'd probably have to use wire clippers to clip the needles shorter. For me tho, not something I would do. I just don't think there's a way to get that trim crap to look like a factory chrome gauge ring. I vote take it off for good. Swat

P.S. I'm doing some DIY customizing with the same piece for my WS6, but I'm keeping that on the D.L. until I'm done!

I can almost SWEAR he said he spent $4 and 30 minutes on putting it on for a test run...or are my eyes doing something magical? Why's everyone gotta be asses about it? He DID say that this was a 'proof of concept!' Give him a break and just press him to make it look nice before posting pics in front of a bunch of ******** such as ourselves. Swat

Agreed again,

But it does look great for what it is. I think you could find a little better material than chrome door piping but it turned out well, and it's definately creative. I give ya 2 thumbs up!

Like I said, I wasnt trying to be an *** but I can see how it came off that way. I understand that this was just a test or mock up or whatever but I think it looks cheap and tacky as is, especialy on a car as nice as his. Why spend the money that he has for the real chrome vent rings (instead of just going the cheap route and painting them like others have) and then put door edge molding around the gauge bezel??? Like I said I respect the idea and done right it would look good, but I just cant see how going the route of the door edge molding will ever be done right or look good (but please prove me wrong and I will be the first to admit it!)

Now to try to be productive and make a suggestion....if you want the chrome rings but not an entire chrome bezel (which I dont like either), why not get one of the chrome bezels and mask off the edges and paint the rest black? Then you would have chrome rings on a black bezel and IMO it would look better than the stick on chrome strips.
