Sounds like you got the right plan. Just wipe the door with denatured alcohol and your good to go.

Have you considered doing just an overlay? On my wifes silver TA the silver badges were swapped for black ones and on my car I did stainless overlays over the factory SOM badges. IMO the overlays look better than the whole emblem being black. It gives it more "crispness" I guess.

Just a thought.

No, I meant go with black overlays over your stock emblems rather than painting the whole thing. To me just the "surface" contrasting looks better than the entire emblem.

Plus it will be a PIA to cut the 3m tape to fit your emblems perfect. If your set on black ones I would just buy a set of factory black ones, they already painted and have the tape on them (thats what we did on my wifes car.) It seems like at the time they were $40 a pair on ebay...they may have even been cheaper.

I would just get whole new emblems. They are like $40 bucks on eBay and already have the factory double sided adhesive ready to go. That's what I did and it looks a lot better than overlays that could start to peel or curl after a couple of years.

I say stay the course and do what you were going to do. After you get the emblems off, put the tape back on and trim it to fit. Paint, peel and stick.
