Default Fuse box relocation warning!

I just put my fuse box down where the air pump used to be and everything was good! Well last night i got caught in a nasty storm for about 30 miles and nothing bad really happened but a 3am my car horn started going crazy on and off in the garage and the horn relay was clicking in the fuse box. So i put the box in the normal locating and it was wet on the inside of the box. So i pulled the relays and blew it out with a air hose and let it sit and put some dielectric grease on the relays and left it in the normal location and everything is good now. If your car is a true DD like mine if you do relocate the fuse box i would put the thick plastic bag around it and tape it up good to keep water out of the fuse box. Just a heads up!

Water and dust can get in there. I had a problem with my car not wanting to start at times and it turning off while I was driving. After checking fuses for continuity and cleaning them I took out all the fuses and cleaned them. Then I sprayed some electrical cleaner on the contacts in the fuse boxes and put all fuses back.

Yeah but if you left them down there, what did you do to prevent the problem from occurring?

I should have specified that this was in the stock location. I'm just saying that in general it is a good idea to keep them covered and clean.

That is so ghetto rigged that I would just put it back in stock location.... even if it wasn't seen knowing that I had a ziploc baggy holding my fuse box would bug the **** out of me

That's why I put mine where I did. They are not hidden but at least it's a slightly cleaner look than stock.
LS2bait put his where you put yours with no problems. Any idea if his is a DD?

you could always just apply some clear silicone to the bottom of the boxes where the wires are so it would be water tight. Ppl that submerge their vehicles often use this trick

Or even put it in a tuperware container, and then silicone up the hole you'll have to cut where the harness comes out.

Mine is back in the stock location! Just saying what could be done and make it safe but it would be ghetto and as long as you had a cover nobody would ever now.

I had a relay get wet but it was was for my line lock. It was fun trying to go from a red light when the front brakes were locked up.

I thought this was a cool idea but the first thing that came to mind was the problem I had with the line lock. I wouldn't want something like that happening on the road.

I was just remembering an article I read years back in Four Wheeler... it was a trick that mud racers and guys who saw a lot of deep water did.

My personal opinion is to just leave it where it is, GM put it there for a reason.
