cleaning engine whats up everyone? i have a 2000 trans am wanted to know if anyone can tell me how to wash the engine, i dont want to wet anything that will mess up my car. i know this is a dumn question. thanks
i was about to open up the same thread, i wonder if those self wash car wash engine degressor would work? its like a warm green spray. i font want it to remove the paint on my valve covers tho nor the engine bay paint

Go to carwash, open hood, soap, rinse and you're done. Not real hard to do, just don't get real close, stuff a towel into lid opening so no water hits your filter, and I try to dry puddles on the top of the engine.

cover up open sensors if your taking your lid and maf,which I recommend and cover up throttle body, then go to town with some degreaser and some soapy water. The worst thing that could happen is you could miss for about a mile...its just water
t shirts to cover the electrics, decent coat of simple green on everything else, scrub with a toothbrush in those caked on areas, wash down with hose, use a leaf blower to dry most of it.

and as soon as your done washing, be sure to crank your car up so the water will evaporate from the heat in the hard to get places like under the intake manifold, where it could possibly ruin the knock sensors.

i just cover up the pcm and fuse box... spray degreaser all over the motor and let it soak for a few mins... start the car up and let it run while i spray it off at the car wash... i use the sprayer full blast but i dont hold it very close to the motor... just far enough away that it cleans it well without too much pressure coming down on the motor... and stay away from the front of the airbox or you could cover that as well if you like... you will have to use your own judgement... then go drive the car for a bit to make sure all the water evaporates... never had a problem with this method
