I also plan on some functional hood pins toward the front like on this car...

So who is gonna be the first to try talking me out of hood pins? Ill make a final decision when I see the hood mounted but it looks good in my head!

ya know I already have that **** on my car. I recently "slightly damaged" my 4" cowl hood and was thinking of buying something else but choices are limited so I'm keeping my hood. I think the 4" cowl looks great on a 4th gen. Do it to it.

I have hood pins as well, car just has no paint, look me up when you get to town.

You think a big cowl is going to get people to question your car's power... Hood pins are a MAGNET for that.

Hood pins are a FUNCTIONAL addition to a car. They look bad *** because people in the know see them and automatically assume the car is built for racing, has a light weight hood and needs pins...

SO, ricers started putting hood pins on cars just to look bad *** (some even put fake ones on) so it has a stigma but not one they created, one they are a victim of.

You wouldn't put a wheelie bar on a car with 400rwhp and adding hood pins to a functioning bolt on hood will make some people see the car the same way...

I LOVE the way they look but at the same time see where they could have people flaming you...

As you know, I had them on the 1994 Z but it was because I had a hood that had been damaged in a wreck. The top skin flew off on me once and after we re-attached it and Chris (Whistler) painted the car we added hood pins to be safe and make sure it didn't happen again...

I almost put them on my Sunoco hood. I decided to wait until I had it on the car and painted for awhile... Then if I still wanted to drill holes into my nice hood I would... Obviously, I changed my mind.

I think you should do the same. Get the hood on and painted, then after a month if you still want them then go for it, who gives a f@ck what others say....

Just don't do fake ones and don't do cheap ones. You want ones with a quality striker plate, rubber washers, nice pins (I like the solid dowels with the rings) and I recommend a nice set of cables (metal but with clear protective plastic on them) everything in stainless... to do it right.

Sounds expensive but only $20-$50 for everything I am talking about... Similar to what you see on a lot of 1970ish Chevelles...

/\ I agree to just about everything you posted there. Makes sense. Like I said earlier Ill see how I like the hood after a while and if I still want hood pins then ya Ill go for it.
Only thing is some manufacturers like Glasstek actually tell their customers to use the pins! Whats the difference between them and VFN that VFN hoods wouldnt need pins. Honestly to me I like hood pins because 1) I like the way they look and 2) I dont want my hood coming apart and smashing my windshield. Ive actually read alot of cowl hood guys say that has happened to them on here.
Same reason I have a bunch of over engineered parts on my car to support mild horse power-peace of mind.

Holy ******* cow. You are comparing hood pins to wheelie bars? Just a little extreme comparison maybe? Like a 4" cowl hood isn't gonna attract attention to the car and cause people to question its power? Your posting started with off afainst hood pins based mostly on what other people would say/think then you finish up with the wholw **** em' who cares what they think, are you a politician? yeah I got a 4" cowl hood and pins and as stated were on the car when I got it. Thought about getting rid of them at first but after two weeks was glad as hell I kept them. Good point on not drilling the hood until sure hood pins are wanted, would be an expensive reversal.

Nothin against you 6liter, maker of the all holy splitter, just feeling contrary tonight. Catch ya later.

You have about 6 hours of late night PM's between KC and I to catch up on before my Cliff Notes on Hood Pins that I typed for him will make sense to you...

Basically, I already told him I like them but also know he was already reluctant to even get the cowl hood to begin with for the very reason most people are reluctant to get hood pins...

Wheelie bar was extreme reference but nailed the metaphor on the head...

The "pin on" and "bolt on" hoods are completely different. Pin ons require a LOT of pins...

For what you want to do, you would still want to get the bolt on hood then add pins to the front.

Again, I'm all for them, just wanted to lay the case out for you to make your own decision...

If you decide to do it, I'm your man to tell you where to get what and where to put them

No I understand the difference between pin on and bolt on, but some of the glasstek owners have posted up experiences where the fiberglass top will actually separate from the rest of the hood( the 'frame'?) and fly off. To me a cowl hood is a cowl hood and I dont want this to happen to me. These guys were talking about their bolt in hoods.
And they look really cool!
I tried to get ahold of VFN today. I figured they kept normal buisness hours and would be open until 1700. Well when I called I was about 5 minutes late. Oh well it has given me another day to think this over and Im still down with it. Whats more important is that my wife thinks its a cool idea too.
Like I was saying at RMS, so sayeth the wife so shall it be...
