Where To Mount A 5" Monster Tach?
I was thinking about getting one of these with the shift light, but didn't really want to drill holes in the top of the dash? Anyone have some ideas for other mounting options. Thanks.

I wish I had a pic but I don't. I mounted mine onto the lower part of the a-pillar. It's a perfect fit in that little corner. I loosened and turned the mount so that the bottom was facing to the right. Drilled 2 tiny holes into the plastic a-pillar cover and bolted it on. Make sure you mount it low enough so the bottom of the tach is touching the dash (so it won't wobble). I moved the shift light to the 2 o'clock position. I would never drill holes in my dash.

Thanks Bravo! I thought about the a-pillar, but the molding didn't seem very sturdy. I suppose if I let it rest on the dash like you have done, it might work out good. Could always put a small piece of foam under the tach where it touches the dash too.

What is the reasoning behind getting a tach and light? Why not just get a harlan shift light mounted somewhere (behind center vents, or in driver side defrost circle vent). This would save a lot of money and not be as obvious...

I got a 5" tach...mounted on the right hand side of the steering wheel...but camaros dont have that extra plastic piece...therefore I would place it in the left hand corner or on the left hand A-pillar...

Some of us like the obvious!! Also, hasn't there been stories of the factory tach being as much as 400 rpm's off? Not sure about how valid those stories were...anybody??

Yea the stock tachs are dogs....
I bounced off the revlimiter when I hammered it a lot...it would read 5600 and all of a sudden I got to shift and bounce off the damn thing...

Yep
The stock tach sux! At the track in 1st I bounce off the limiter at 5700 (what a suprise that was ). My car is fairly stock, I can't imagine how bad it will be with an h/c/i and 4.10s!
5" Tach with shiftlight coming soon!

Re: Where To Mount A 5" Monster Tach?
H/C/I M6 with 4.10's you say?
My rev limiter is set at 6600rpm and I have to shift at 6000rpm on the 1-2 shift otherwise I hit the rev limiter.
BTW, PSJ that looks pretty slick! I may have to mount mine there too when I get one.

Re: Where To Mount A 5" Monster Tach?
I originaly mounted mine in the left corner on the plastic trim around the gauge cluster. It seemed to get in the way and block a big portion of my view during left hand turns.
My solution was to move it to the right side like Prostock John shows in his picture. The only thing I did differantly was that I mounted my shift light on the left hand side where the tach was originally. No real reason for doing this other than I think it looks better. I will post pics when I get the interior finished.

Re: Where To Mount A 5" Monster Tach?
The tach in my '98 T/A was 200 RPM off, and my friend's '98 T/A also verified this. The tach in my SS is dead-on, though. When I had a '00 SS for a short while, it was bone-stock. I had to shift at 5,600 on the 1-2 or I'd tag the limiter. The lag in the factory tachs is awful.
I had an AutoMeter pencil shift light mounted on the top of my steering column in my T/A, and I used an MSD RPM adjuster to adjust the light. This way I didn't have to get an aftermarket tach, and I could still know where the car was shifting or where to shift if I was shifting manually. To each his own.
