For those who have this battery, how do you keep it secured? One guy said he used plastic straps,Im thinking bundle ties maybe. Where would I tie the battery to? I want to get this battery because its on sale right now but dont feel like getting that aluminum bracket that Thunderracing sells for $125. and adds 5 lbs too. I also wanted to take off my front bumper support. Im pretty sure its simple but as with most everything else with these cars, simple tasks turn into all day nightmares.

Front bumper support removed: -20lbs
Stock battery weight: 32 lbs
Dynabatt battery weight: 13.5 lbs
PA racing mild steel k-member and a arms: -43lbs

Thats 80+ lbs off the front without sacrificing my AC,front swaybar,and ABS

Also interested in Madman steering rack as heard it weighs 20 to 30 lbs lighter, steep price though ($595.)

Seriously, take it off and go drive around... see if you notice a difference. I dont miss mine a bit.

 

I don't miss the front swaybar either. Once I took it off, it stayed off. I imagine once the adjustable shocks go on, it'll be even easier to be without it.

If you are removing existing parts it is cheap but $150 for a battery that will go dead if you let you fans run longer than 10 minutes with the engine off is not very cheap John. Or $900 for a light weight front suspension to save 50 pounds is not exactly cheap either. But I have paid that and more!

Thanks for the info Raughammer. Hey how about making me a metal strap, Ill even pay you to do it. You could probably be a source for that. They got guys making all kinds of useful stuff for our cars, Harlan and his shift light, Ron and his Ws7 badges, someone was also getting halogen fog lights that dont melt the enclosures on the TA made. Your little strap could be usefull.

Im gonna try and use plastic zip ties at first but if this doesnt work Im gonna need Raughammers strap.

I think my dad picked those up at a boating supply store. You could probably find something similar at any well stocked autoparts store.

Simple...

Picked up a peice of aluminum flat bar, at the local hardware store. pretty cheap, and light weight.

Take your time, and cut and bend it correctly.

What you don't see is that between the battery and the brace is a rubber square That was cutout from an old fernco couple (remember the fernco bellows mod?). Its thick, and is stuck to the bracket with some RTV silicone.

You can see how it bolts up from the pic, uses the original hold down bolt on one side, and just used a metal screw, and a drill for the frontside of the bracket.

Also you might notice that there are some Marine battery post used on the dynabatt. They stick straght up out of the battery.. the extra hight gives you alittle more clearance from the fender well when taking the lead cables on, and off.

Took my dad maybe 15 minutes to make once he had the parts. after cutting the metal bracket he bent it the old fashion way...ballping hammer, and a vice.

Thunder Racing has the GM side post adapters so you can hook up your terminals. Cost about $20. Still waiting for my battery, PAIN has done a really good job of securing that battery, I might go that route.

 

I never had a lick of trouble with it with the stock cube motor. Just don't leave the doors open all day, and the dome lights , and radio on all day. It doesn't have the reserve of a standard battery. But if you drive it occasionally you should never have any problem.

It does appear to be a little on the weak side when it comes to powering the stroker though.

overcharge it or it will void your warranty"

The GM adapters are posts, they don't work with
the stock wires.Was I misinformed?or am I missing
something?This just turned into a headache.....

 

I called thunder racing and they said they must
have forget to send the side post adapters.
Shipping them out today.I thought I was going
crazy.BTW,I came up with 14lbs.

I bought it from Thunder racing.
dynabatt w/GM adapters 175.00.shipping was 9.99.
(I bought !CAGS also,but it really doesn't
weigh anything)I also got a 10.00 discount for
ordering on line.So 174.99 with discount.
They say it weighs 13.5 lbs.
I haven't weighed it, but it feels close.
I'll weigh it,and let you know if it is different.
