Default Power Antenna LUBE?? (Stop laughing! I'm serious!)

Subject says it all...
<insert smart cracks here.. >

I noticed 2night that my antenna is not going all the way down..(STOP LAUGHING!! You have dirty minds!)
It stops at the last section..I'm able to push it down..I turned the radio on and off and it went down completely...It seems as tho its just 'dry'
What should I use to lube it up? (STOP IT!)

I know there is some kind of lube used..
Touch it..yea..go ahead..grab it...You'll have your fingers/hand blackened by whatever stuff was originally used...

Please..no KY jokes...there must be something thats used to fix this before it stresses the antenna motor out to the point that it kills it...

Pulled this from another site. Hope it helps. I'm guessing it's correct. I don't have a power antenna.

Antenna Maintenance:

The mast should be cleaned from time to time. To clean the mast:

1. Turn on radio to raise antenna.
2. Dampen a clean cloth with mineral spirits or equivalent
3. Wipe the mast sections with the cloth removing any dirt.
4. Wipe dry with a clean cloth.
5. Cycle the antenna up/down
6. Repeat as needed.

NOTE
Do NOT lubricate the antenna. Lubrication could damage it!
If the antenna does not go down when the radio is turned off, it may be damaged or need to be cleaned. In either case, lower it by hand by carefully pressing the antenna down.
If the mast portion of the antenna is damaged, you can easily replace it. See your dealer for a replacement kit.

I do not know if that applies to our anntenas because we have a LOT of grease on our antennas. I know because every time I clean the car, I get some one me, lol!

Wish I could offer some info. I would thanks that just using some simple grease would do the trick, as long as you do not use it in excess??

When I first got my car I had the same thing happening to my antenna. I took it to the closest Pontiac dealership and all they did was lube it up . Well that worked for a while but then all that grease caused it to get stuck worse than before because it was collecting dust and everything else on and that caused it to clog up. I took it to a completely different dealership and they installed a brand new antenna and I havent had any problems since.

Wouldnt mineral spirits quickly dry it out?

I wonder if a graphite based lubricant, or maybe a teflon type one will work. I have a camaro, so my rod never goes down

How about applying a spray or two of WD-40?

When I bought a GM replacement antenna for my TA it came with lithium type grease. You could also you some graphite which would work better.

Couldn't you just put silicone spray on it?

I used gun oil... seems to work great. Applied with rag. Hoopers 9

If you do, make sure that you get none of it on your paint. I had a friend do this to his to his Cadillac trunk lid. Needless to say, He had to repaint the lid and quarter panel. Enjoy.

Dont lube it...just use mineral spirits or something. The grease some of yall are seeing is from the cable of the mast itself. That needs lube inside of the motor and sometimes seeps around the base but the mast itself doesnt need lube. It can attract dirt and cause more problems in the long run.

Before you do any cleaning/lubing check to make sure someone hasn't put a light bend in it. That sticking happened to me and I could push it down and then it would power up OK but wouldn't go down. I carefully straightened it and then it worked fine.
