Default Bird half faded

So on my '96 t/a the red firebird logo by the hatch lock is fading... and the "Trans Am" has completely disappeared. On ebay there's a guy selling some vinyl decals that are supposed to "fill in". Has anyone used decals? Is there a better method?

Wet sand it with 1500 grit sand paper until all the ink (your firebird logo and "trans am") come off. Then polish it to a pretty black shine! Looks better IMO.

BTW I've used decals and all that crap before and they just suck! You have to be careful when washing it with a mit or w/e cause you can catch a corner and pull the decal up. Only decals I have no are the "ram air" on my hood. Plus IMO, decals make it look cheap.

You don't have to sand it to get the decal or whatever off.. You can just use rubbing compound and rub it off.. Comes off pretty easy, but still leaves the raised plastic part. This is where you'd have to wet sand and buff, however, if you don't, the raised letters and bird aren't that noticeable unless you're right up on it and looking for it...

x2 on removing it. At this point you can either go with the decals (can be done if painted and clearcoated), you can get rid of the logo altogether, or you can buy a non-faded replacement piece.

replacing the faded red bird with a silver one on a black TA looks sick.

Thanks Breathtaker... I might consider that. Removing the wording and bird isn't exactly what I was going for... quite the opposite actually. So that seems pretty viable.

here are the ones on my 95. they have been on there for about 4 years. IIRC i got them for ~ $10 from ebay

i went with gold. both of these photos were taken this summer with the sticker being ~ 4 years old

it was kind of a PITA to put them on since the ones i got you had to individually remove each letter and put them in place (the n and s are 1 sticker in Trans Am, but the rest are individual and the bird is about 6 pieces) i got it very close to its OEM location although if you get really really close (your nose almost touching the trunk lock) you can see where the bird is a little bit too far up from where it once was and you can faintly see its old outline, but no one has ever noticed it. i only noticed it myself after it was all dried. FWIW the easiest way to do it is to take off the panel (take off the taillights, and the panel comes right off) and take it into the house and do it over your kitchen sink (i used an old empty spray cleaner bottle filled with soap and water to put the decals on there.. you want to get it wet and then apply them so you can position them where you want them and then blow on them to dry them in place) it took me probably 30-45 mins to do the whole thing

So you would recommend the decals then? It looks to be in great shape for 4 years, I don't think I could ask for more.
