Default New stall converter problems

Ok so I had a rebuilt tranny and a 3000 stall put in today from guy at home that works at gm. I realy havnt noticed a change and was wanting to find out whats up. I saw the quote saying it feels like im pulling a 2000 lb trailer and it sort of feels that way. I realy dont notice anything when I punch it. While I am driving I hear a noise coming from the tranny it sounds like a gear turning or like a spooling noise. It stops at like 15 miles and hour. I read that I need a transbrake is that somthing that needs to be added with the tranny down and what does it realy do?

The install was done wrong. First off, if he told you to get a transbrake, hes a complete idiot. A transbrake locks the 1st and reverse gears together when you launch, so you can launch at as high as you want. I know there might be one made for the 4L60E, but its rare and is mostly found on the TH350/400. Unless the car is an all out strip car, I cant figure why anyone would suggest a transbrake.

As for the converter, you should notice an immediate difference. Im not a tranny guy but it sounds like the converter is having lockup issues, and was probably installed incorrectly. Also, a transmission cooler is something you NEED to have with a stall, I hope he had that done too. If I were you Id take it to someone who knows what theyre doing, this guy doesnt seem like he should be around your car. Good luck

Not sure about the noises you are hearing, but I have to post and disagree with these guys.

After installing my Yank 3600, I honestly could not feel a difference. I've let a few people drive my car and they say it feels stock. But obviously the track times say differently..hah

Wow. I can't imagine how you couldn't feel the difference. When I went from stock to my TCI 3000, I felt the difference was radical - even though the daily driveability was excellent. When I upgraded from that to the SS3600, I could even feel the difference, and upped my shift points accordingly. But after a couple of days I couldn't feel it anymore.

big difference from stock to my vig 3600. totally different beast. verter flashes to 4 grand instantly when u punch it. gotta love it. as for your problem id say you either got burned and someone sold u stock verter or your guy messed up the pump on install

i would say bs on the 3k stall your buddy from gm gave you. What brand is it as that might help us help you. My take on it (could be wrong but just going by the info you posted) is that your buddy got a stock converter from another application(say a truck or something) and thinks it will stall to 3k rpm behind your motor since you would have more hp/torque than the car/truck he took it from. This is more of an old timers poor mans stall as was often done in the 60's muscle cars. But this might not be the case in your situation. You should definately feal the difference between stock and a 3k stall, i sure did as well as fealing a difference between my 3k and 3,800. Your rpms should instantly jump when the hit the go pedal and your rpm drop on shifts should not be as much as the stock verter..

No seat of the pants feel there---No offense but wouldn't want you driving my race car
stock is 1700. converters dont usually flash to their actual stall, usually lower. as for my 3200 it was noticeable. it felt like driving through mud all the time, like the car didn't wanna move with light throttle. get the revs up and BAM you're gone.

yeah you will definitely tell a difference with any stall over 3,000. like 01redssa4 said it will feel like you are driving in mud under light throttle but scoot if you give it enough. kinda sounds like he might have damaged your pump if its making noises now. and trans brakes are out there for the 4l60e but is only used by racers with slicks...

you must be an idiot

it is 100% noticeable when trying to keep your rpms below 2k and you move no where.... Stock stall moving the car below 1500 rpms was easy...

No need to call people names. and no need to continue hijacking this guy's thread. If you want to call each other names, message me and I'll talk crap to you in private.

You are welcome to contact two friends on here, XPTB and RaggedRides who have both driven my car...and under normal driving, the car feels stock. XPTB even said his TCI 3000 felt more extreme than the Yank SS3600. Maybe it is the 3.73s that help it feel less sluggish than yours.

i have heard "tighter" stalls are hard to notice under light throttle. my 3200 is way loose so people not even riding with me notice it.

I have 2.73 gears and honestly I must have just been screwed because It feels like normal when at a stop and gas it. It seems like when going through the gears that is stays at a higher rpm now. Thanks for the help
