transmission keeps burning the 3 and forth clutches
the last time i had my transmission built the guy for some reason drilled a hole in my 3 and 4th drum and did something to the valve so my vig 3200wouldn't lock up like it suppose to know every time i get on the highway for a long period of time my trany burns up and i have to have it rebuilt. i guess my question is, why would he make it were it wouldn't lock up and why did he drill the holes in the drum?? has anyone heard of this before?? im getting kinda scared to drive it another 200 miles bein afraid my trany will burn up again. Im almost to the point of just buying a brand new trany if i cant get this one lined out.
It used to be ok to drill drums and run unlocked with the right lube mods to run unlocked. But not on this trans. He drilled the drum I'd guess thinking the 3-4 is applying at high rpm, an old trick used to keep fluid from centrifugally applying a clutch.
But this is my guess, it's hard to diagnose the work of a moron.
ya and the guy i got rebuilding it now is trying to go through it and figure out what all the other guy did. He's on the second rebuild in two weeks as we speak hope this time he figures out everything.

I was having the same issues with my trans, went through several sets of 3-4 clutches. The HD set of 3-4 return springs worked for me. The clutches were centrifugally applying.
Yes, thats what I forgot to write. In the days of the th400's and th350s you'd drill a small hole to fix that. These days with the 4L60E it's more common to use the stronger springs.
