Default Please help ...Stroker 406 and Th700r4's

I have a 69 Camaro and I am in the process of building a stout AFR headed 406 sbc. I have 2 trannies at the house at this time. I have a TPI performance 700r4 and a stock TH350.
With a 3000 stall is this 700r4 ever going to live behind this motor?? I would love to keep an overdrive but dont want to be pullin trannys every 4 to 6 months. Should I say screw the overdrive and get a Rossler TH350?? Or should I go the TH 400 route?? I am getting mixed results about if this tranny will live or not?? I was also thinking about the Raptor 700r4 until I did a search on here and found alot of negitve feedback. For gears I plan to run 3.73's and will go to the track probably once per month or so. Also I will be on drag radials for the street and ET streets for the track. Any and all replys would be great . Thanks Ron

If it were me: I wouldn't be running the 69 much on the street, definitely not down the highway were I would use the OD and converter lock up feature of the 700.

For none other than being a straight up hydro mechanical trans, I would throw the 350 behind the beast and race it till it broke. Why? Because every once in a while I like to go blow something up. ... I would then bolt a 400 behind it and just have fun with it.

One more thing: I'd build the motor for 7500 rpm's, and go with a little more loose converter (3600 min).

z ya,

I run a 700r4 behind a 406 sbc. I made 517 hp, 576 tq at the fly wheel. Oh yea, my truck weights 4262 lbs. with me in it.
