Default New Sponsor, Trinity Transmission

Just a quick introduction since we are new. We have over 20 year experience mainly building GM products. Located in Arizona we do alot of offroad race 400s and 4l80s. Our website is still under development, but don't let that deter you from contacting us via phone or email if you have any questions. If anything I hope I can contribute to the forum with some valuable information. We are working on a 6l80e project that uses a standalone controls so stay tuned.

what kind of power would your 6L80 build be able to hold and what kind of price bracket would it be?

and can you elaborate on the standalone controller setup? e.g. VSS and RPM and 12V and it shifts? paddle-shifters? etc?

At the moment we have the controls working behind a 502 hp big block. RWHP is the next step although raybestos already is making Reds for it and are working on Blues. The Controls are in development with a reliable source. They work similar to the majority of others on the market, using tps, Rpm and VSS. VSS is internal to the transmission so it only requires tps and RPM. Two major hurdles are for one a clutch to clutch transmission behave totally different than "freewheelers". Clutch to Clutch transmission behave like a manual so to speak. When you command a gear that is what you get. Consequently if this transmission for some reason looses VSS it thinks it should go to first Gear (no matter how fast you are going). Second timing the oncoming clutch and off going clutches is very difficult for the normal user. I have it working but do not know how the general public will adapt to it. Stay tuned for more updates.

From all estimate the red offer a 10%-15% increase over the production. It depends on the clutch pack, number of plates. Some of their current package add and additional plated to he current clutch. I have not seen any data on the Blue material, my contact at Raybestos says they are about 6 months away from completing this product.

The controller is used in other applications at this time and it does simulate VSS so you can use a digital speedometer. It has paddle shift capability as well. It does work with the ZF5hp and last I heard they had it working with the zf 6hp. Check with the link below to inquire about the zf models.

As for affordability, that is a big challenge considering the SPO price for a 6l80e it around 2500 stock plus a core charge. Then you have to add a modified controls package for around another 1500 at least. This is just a stock 6l80e. Add a TC for another 1000-1500 and you have a fairly expensive conversion.

I wont argue one bit about the benefits and the cost differential. If it wasn't feasible I wouldn't even waste the effort to develop it. As for PCS if they say they aren't working on it then who am I to argue. I am curious as what special upgrade RPM are charging for since there are no real significant internal modifications at this time.

We hope so we are continuing to progress with this approach and it is working in our development vehicle. But again it is verify challenging to calibrate for the normal user. More to come.
