I have a 2002 camaro and i want to get a stall converter. Many people have suggested that i get like a 3600-4000k stall. People are also suggesting that i shouldnt use tci converters. I dont plan on ever making over 450 hp (im broke) . I do drive my car on the streets and and i was thinking like a 3000k stall, and since not making that much power do you think that tci converters will be ok.

 

I have a tci converter and like it so far. You can see my mods in sig, plan on eventually adding a set of heads. If I was you, I would not go with a 3k converter. I don't believe you will be happy with it. I would atleast get a 3600. They are very streetable and make such a HUGE difference in performance. If I could do everything over again, I would have definately got a stall before I even got an exhaust. It will probably make more of a performace difference than anything you will ever do... And by the way, I have put 3500 miles on my car since the mods. No problems yet.. (knock on wood).

 

if you are looking to save a bit i think circle D has a nice entry level 11 inch converter for a great price. i went with and EDGE converter which is a bit cheaper then yank and vig. no problems so far.

 

What gears are in your car?

Don't be afraid of a big stall.... I have a Yank SS3600 and with 3.73 gears it doesn't drive much different than stock.

 

Me personally, I like my vigilante 3200 stall. I heard of other brands like tci, circle d, yank, etc...and I hear some of the popular ones are circle d, yank, and vigs. I've only used vigilante so I can't really say anything about the rest.
It seems that my stall is more like a 3600 stall. Anyway, the ******* stall is tight and I like it. So, a vig 3200 should be the most balanced stall for the street/strip. But, what do I know? It's just an opinion from me. But I say this, when you make a decision to get a stall, you want to get it right the first time.

Almost got a yank before i got a vig. I heard good things about yank too.

I have 3.73s and i race at track alittle. But i do do alot of street racing there is a huge import scene here and i like to show them whats up!

Not trying to push anything on you but you get what you pay for in a converter.The better performing converters are more expensive.Save up a little more and get a quality peice for both performance and reliability.If the converter breaks it will likely damage your trans so the money you save the first time will be spent twice the second time.

im running a vigilante 3200 stall as well.. it is perfect for a daily driver..it is comparable to a yank 3600 size stall. my car never will see the track and im not out to set records so the 3200 is perfect for my wants..

never go cheap on a converter..go with the quality brands like vigilante, yank, or circle D.

 

If i were you and i was just going to kick around town i would just get the most affordable stall you can get. I run a 3600 Vig., but during race season im at the track almost every weekend. TCI will do what you need it to do. and unless you want dramatic in town gas milage dropage i would stay with a lower rpm stall.

 

I had a 3400 stall in my ws6 and hated it. I now have a 3200 Circle D in my CAmaro and drive it every day. I recommend the Circle D all day.

 

I would not get anything under 3600 imo. I had a 3200 and after a little driving i couldnt tell the difference between it and stock. You will get bored with something like i would think.

 

the difference between a 4k and a 3200 stall (if they are quality converters) is minimal.. it only takes about another 150 rpms to pick up from a red light... and they should lock up at the same time..

only difference is when you kick it... the 4k will shine, the 3200 wont..

 

What brand of 3200 stall TQ did you have in the car? You have to make sure the car is set up properly for your particular stall. One car will work better w/3200 stall then another car w/4000 stall. It also depends greatly on what your going to use your car for. I would highly recommend you call one of the sponsers on this board and have them work w/you on your set up. I used Frank at performabuilt to help me on what TQ stall to use for my car and driving needs. I asked alot of questions and Frank took the time and had the patience to deal w/all my crazy questions, espeacially w/the STR pick for my application.

I had a ptc 3200 stall, seriously it felt like something for women, i got a ptc 4000 and i like it alot. ive only made 2 passes but a 1.62 is what ive cut so far lowered with stock suspension. I got my converter from a sponsor and i have a built trans from perfomabuilt, so i i think am doing alright at the moment.
