I am curious what my Th400 came out of.
The tag says 455 CA-67-51291

I'll take a stab at it. It appears to be from a 1967 chevy with big block engine. Although the "455" does not match any Julian date.

So would it be a good choice to rebuild. Its a short tail shaft with slip yoke.
So 455 is a date not a engine?

I was told it came out of a station wagon but he wasnt 100%

Just about any th400 would be a good choice to build. The obvious thing to look at is that the unit has a good case with good internals. In most cases you will want to make sure that you have a sprag style direct drum when building the unit and also an output shaft that uses a slip yoke. Other than that they are all pretty much a good candidate. Vince

I dont know about the sprag. got any pics to tell the difference.

I have two 400s and both look good.

I have never seen a 400 with a 3 pinion gear planet. I will have to look through my photo's to see if I have a picture of a sprag style drum vs the spring and roller style.

There has not been a three pinion gearset in a 400. Below is a nice overview of the difference from another LS1 Tech user.

Thanks for the link should help with my questions. Hope to start my rebuild in the next couple weeks, and hope to have it running before spring.
