What kind of gear oil should I use for a stock rear end? Do i ever need to change the gear oil or just fill it if its low?

^^^i believe 30k or 3 years is standard procedure. i would change mine more frequently bc of the harder use then on a normal car.

i read somewhere that you need a pump to get the oil in there once you drain it...does that sound right?

Not necessary... support the car at the rear frame rails and let the axle droop... that gives enough room to pour from a bottle.
