Default What do you know about the 4L30E?

So I blew the motor in my 99' Isuzu Trooper. I'd rather replace the 3.5L with a LSx based motor such as 5.3 LN7. Considering the 4L30E is a GM transmission, would the motor bolt up, and how hard would this swap be? Anyone have ANY idea? I'm really clueless.

Thanks

It will not bolt to the Small block. It is a different bell housing.

To bolt to the LSX you would need to use the 4L60E but since you would already be swapping the wiring harness, PCM etc it would not be a complicated part of the plan really

Damn Isuzu's! My mother had a 3.2 97' Trooper that out of the blue developed a rod knock on the pas. side of the engine. It finally blew up on the highway on me when it lost all oil pressure. I thought about motor swaps and researched it but ended up selling it. I did seem to find that the caddy northstars will bolt up to the 4l30E.

With GM transmissions the number, in this case, 30, is related to torque rating if I'm not mistaken. The lower the number, the lower the torque rating.

So, even if it would bolt up, I don't think a 4L30 would last very long, especially in an SUV.

Hey, I'm brand new here but thought I'd offer up what I know about Trooper as I have a 1997 with 177K on the odo.

Sounds like you may have already been here: http://myweb.cableone.net/bcanderson...uroraSwap.html
Bruce's page must have a gagillion hits on it by now.

and checking out http://www.planetisuzoo.com/ if you haven't already is a good idea. I used to run with those guys and the info there could be helpful.

I've wanted to do a V8 swap for a several years and just now have the time and cash to start thinking about it.
The LSx was my first thought, but it's obvious that there would be a lot more work involved.
I have two current theories:
FIRST ONE is taking your basic Chevy 1500 4x4 engine and tranny and swapping them in.
SECOND ONE is using the Aurora/Northstar and rebuilding the 4l30e to handle the added power.

But I am strictly an arm chair mechanic. These are just faintly intelligent guesses.

Wow, Forgot completely about that site I'm a member on there but have not logged in since my Trooper blew up! You've got about 20K more miles than mine. I bet a LSx/4l80e would be nice in a Trooper That 3.2 was way underpowered IMO
