Default trans not getting fluid?

well i cracked my stall converter a month ago, i finally got it fixed and put it in today, also i got new clutches put in the tranny. well i put it in today and i had about 5 quarts of oil in and it was leaking out the dipstick, so i started it and put in the gears thinking the oil would collect, and it didnt. do you have any ideas, do you think my pump went bad?

Depending on the transmission it should hold at least 9-11 quarts if you just rebuilt it.They will not move with 5 quarts usually. If the level is not going down then the pump gear is probably broken or the converter is not seated in the gear.

Does sound like a pump and a broken converter hub and a broken pump would be a likely scenario, Remove a cooler line and start it up if no spray then the pump is broken

I only put about 1/2qt into the converter when installing. I ended up putting 4 qts in my trans just doing a converter swap but I did spill some out of the output shaft during removal.

This might sound like a stupid question but you did bolt up the converter to the flex plate?

No the pump would pump till the pan was dry to fill the converter, Unfortunately I am betting on a broken pump .

Technically you can put the converter in with no fluid and be able to drive down the road within however long it takes you to fill it to near the full mark, which should be not more than 5 minutes.
So it looks like you've got problems.
What was done to the pump while the trans was apart getting clutches?

The Hub breaking could have damaged the pump rotor

Thats what I'm trying to get an answer about.
If I pulled out a converter with a broken hub, I'd take the pump apart first thing.
It sounds like that never happened.
