Default lockup on stalled TH400?

i tried searching a bit, but couldn't find exactly what we were looking for.

a buddy of mine has a 60's el camino with a 454ci motor (no hood), TH400 with huge stall, ford 9inch.
he's trying to make it just a little more streetable, but is trying to explore options before going with a 700r4.

i read somewhere where you could rig up a solenoid, get a torque converter with lockup and activate it with a switch on the dash.
how inexpensively can this be done? can anyone recommend a good unit?

PI had a kit to do this years ago and the converter had a converter clutch. Give them a call to see if it is still available.

im running the switch pitch 400 in mine
i had heard the guy that built the 400's with the clutch converter wasnt building them, but would repair them, but not 100% sure
now back in the day, i had a clutch turo 400, you cut the bellhousing off, used a stick bellhousing, clutch, diff pump, etc-talk about a brutal shift
and forget the 700r, unless you drive it slow to the store

Thanks for the reply we are all continuously learning. I did not understand why someone would want to lock a 400 when it was not really accepted in a T350

Because some of us don't want to spend $5g's on a 4L80E setup.
