Default Sensor on Trans Relating to Speedo?

Hey guys just wondering if there is a sensor on my 4L60-e related to my speedometer? When we dropped the trans we accidently pulled a clip off a sensor(didn't break it) and now that everything is buttoned back up the speedo likes to kind of bounce around.

So im guessing this sensor is whats causing the bouncing around? My mechanic told me to pull it back off and clean it up and make sure its in all the way. Anyone else have any suggestions? Thanks - Zack

^K thanks. Do you know how much these generally run price wise? I don't see how we could have damaged it, it just slid the clip off. But ya never know. - Zack

I would just get a new sensor. It is not worth trying to fix it and possibly causing a transmission failure. They are fairly cheap. Vince

You may have damaged the wires. Some time you can separate the wires inside the insulation and cause an erratic signal.

An erratic signal can effect what the computer tells the trans to do. With that being said yes it can hurt a transmission.

Good point however it sounded like they damaged the sensor when removing it from the transmission. I do agree if the sensor does not correct the issue to get a new pigtail connector for the VSS sensor. Vince

Now that i think about it, it does sometimes shudder when shifting gears, like it doesn't know what to do. But it only happens once a trip. So its called the VSS Sensor? Just in case i need to order a new one.

Is this the one towards the end of the tailshaft. Or actually on the tailshaft?

There is only one sensor on the tailhousing. When you say you dropped the transmission, did you actually drop it on the ground and damage the sensor?

Did you put your tailshaft on backwards? If you broke the clip on the weather pack you can get them from - www.eficonnection.com

If you broke the sensor itself you will most likely need a replacement from a sponsor or the dealer.

Guys look in his Sig. This is a 2001 A4 not a 95 or earlier LT1 unit. The VSS is on the passenger side on a 2001 Fbody and has been this way since 96. Vince
