SY3500 STR
The SY3500 was designed mainly as a street converter. The 1.61 STR means it will multiply your engines torque 1.61 times. The low 1.6 STR makes this converter easier to launch on the street with street tires or DRs. As opposed to a harder hitting converter with a 2.5 STR.
with 3.73s and nittos you can get into the high 1.6's with that converter if you car isn't a pig. As stated above, it's really an ideal street converter. If you are looking for solid drag racing capablity and have good tires, more STR will get you another .1 in the 60'.

I have a SY3500 and 3.73 combo.
The best 60 foot I got was a 1.881. I'm still working on improving but haven't figured it out yet. For the track, if i can't figure out how to 60 better, a big shot of nitrous will take care of it for me.
I shaved about .5 seconds from my 1/4 mile time.
In my opinion, this combo is ideal for the street.

It is a KILLER combo for the street. While the other dude is spinning his wheels off your accelerating and leaving him in the dust.
That verter and some drag radials is just DEADLY on the street.
Good luck. The 3.73's and that verter have time and time again been said to be the "sleepers dream".

Joel,
My 99 SS had a SY-3500 with a 1.86 STR, 3.23's
I was MORE than happy with it, on the street
It pulled a 1.72 60 ft on Nitto's
Of course, now-a-days I'd be pissed with a 1.72
