Default exactly what do you need to swap 3.42's into 2.73 A4

00 z28 with A4 2.73's

I've got new GM 3.42's and a 3 series carrier so far.

What else do ya need?

I think all you will need now is the install kit. I made the same change... but I just swapped the entire rear... only cost me $200 It made a huge difference!

yeah i wish i could find a complete rear end that was not tore up from the floor up with abs and TCS but apparently after the kids put their 4.10's in the rear end's they are screwed beyond hope to even bother.

So i'll get the deluxe RATECH installation kit and let some shop locally have at it lol.

If your car has relatively low miles on it, you don't even need the install kit.
But then again, nothing wrong with using the install kit and have everything be new.

I'm eventually gonna go to 3.42s myself... let us know how the car feels afterwards!

I did that 2.73 to 3.42 swap recently. 3.42 is a great street ratio for around town driving. I think my city fuel mileage got better.

Two things to watch out for based on my experience. First, the OEM 3.42 ring gear may interfer with the "paddle" in the torsen diff. I installed a used 3.42 set from a '94 Z28 onto a take-off 3-series torsen diff and had this problem. The remedy was to grind a tiny bit off the ring gear teeth for adequate clearance.

Second, the pinion seal in the install kit was too small in diameter for my yoke. Apparently, the yokes used on 2002 f-bodies was larger in diameter. I'm not sure of when the change occurred (2000?) but I caution you to check the seal fit before you install your yoke. You wouldn't want to crank down on your crush-sleeve and get everything to spec, only to find your pinion seal is the wrong size. You'd have to pull everything apart again to install a new crush sleeve.

Other than that, make sure you have a torque wrench that indicates torque in the counter-clockwise for the ring gear bolts.

OK , I DID THIS A WHILE BACK AND , BESIDES WHAT YOU GOT YOU SHOULD ONLY NEED A INSTALL KIT WHICH IS CHEEP IT JUST CONSISTS OF SMALL THINGS LIKE THE SEAL FOR THE PUMKIN (WHICH I WAS TOLD NOT TO USE) and if you bought a take off carriere from slp like i did for cheep you need to replace the carrier berring, besides that you dont need anything else if you are using the right stuff, hell some even say the **** in the install kit can be reused but i figure for the 10 bucks it cost its better to be safe even though i only had like 3 k on my car they get torn up when you try to remove them but YOU DO NEED A NEW CARRIER BERRING IF ITS A FIREHAWK TAKEOFF UNIT FROM SLP CAUSE THEY GET DAMAGED IN THE REMOVL PROCESS- TRUST ME I HAD TO HAVE IT BROKEN DOWN AFTER IT WAS ALL SETUP BEACOUSE I TOOK SOMEONE'S ADVIDE AND SKIPPED THAT STEP O YEA OVBIOUSLY YOU NEED TO RECLABRATE THE SPEEDO LIKE A HPP3 OR DIABLO
