Stall owners, especially Performabuilt TC owners, please LMK your thoughts
I'm looking to replace my transmission when I replace the engine. I downselected to PB Lvl 2 b/c of the current sale and the core charge. My trans is perfect and I refuse to pay to keep it. Having said that (and brand is NOT debateable, please, unless I can get a no core charge deal of similar price) their sale involves a torque converter. So, first the facts:
My engine: Soon to be installed fully forged 355 LT1 Turbo engine. Custom turbo cam, fully built heads, ORY, methanol injection, and a turbo that will support up to 14 p.s.i. Lots of little goodies, of course, no expense spared. Should be good for at least 550 to 600 rwhp (only the dyno will tell).
My vehicle: 97 Formula, full weight car, not a DD, but a street machine that could be driven coast to coast if I decided to do so, strip trips to tune and play only, not raced competitively. Trans & TC must be very streetable.
Torque converter: Probably a 4000 stall (but open to suggestions, my current 3400 is too small for my taste). I can get a non-billet stall for $150, or a billet stall for $400. I prefer the billet unit for the strength, but is it worth the extra $250 for my car?
And if you have a PB TC, please LMK your thoughts on the unit (and which one you have, of course). Especially if it is one of the billet units.

I just installed a Level 2 with their billet 4k stall(1.69 STR) in my car. Its a cam, full bolt on, and 3.73s car, that i DD. I dont have too much experience with driving it yet, just took it out last night to make sure there were no problems. So far, so good though. Before this, it had an Edge 4k stall, so once i get to drive it a little more, ill let you know.

I have their 9" 2800 stall and level 2 4l60e. Very happy with the car now. I need to get higher gears in the rear end. I have 2.73's in my camaro right now and highway rpms suck.
Frank's service at Performabuilt is AMAZING.

I've been running one of their 9.5" 1.69 str 3000 stalls for the last couple of years. So far I've been able to hit a best of 1.65 60' time in a bolt on LT1 car with very little weight reduction and stock suspension. I have to say it's done me well, but I've changed my original plans for the car. As soon as I get time to pull it out, I'll be taking it to Greg at FTI for a restall.

I'm going to have it bumped up to a 4000 stall. I'm hoping that the stall change and the new suspension pieces that I've just ordered will knock at least a tenth off of my 60' times. I'm trying to run into the 11's before adding any power.

i'm pleased with my 3600 performabuilt stall. i put my foot down quite a bit and it hasn't skipped a beat. i use the lockup on it quite a bit and have heard some chatter on steep hills due to lugging the motor basically, but that's only because i tried commanding lockup when i shouldn't have - and the fluid was clean as could be.
i haven't tried other converters, so i don't have anything to compare it to, but i'd say i'm a completely satisfied customer. and to top it off, their customer service is phenomenal.
