I was in the exact same boat as you this time last year. After two 4L60E's in two years, I debated on the 400 or 4l60E. I ended up going with FLT and a level 5 4l60E. The FLT tranny is FLAWLESS, but I do regret on occasion that I spent an extra $1000 dollars on this package. The 400 would be just as strong, if not stronger, and would have cost me $1000 less to do. It will probably take me ten years to make up this money in gas savings, so don't do it thinking overdrive is gonna save you a ton in gas. Hell, half the time, I drive it around in third gear anyway. And, for what it's worth, I wouldn't buy a 4l60 from anyone but FLT.

how hard is it to get a 80e into an f body because i've read that it is a giant tranny and would need lots of mods to squeeze it in

i just don't like the idea of you loose a lot of tunning with a th400.... plus your winding your motor a good deal more when your driving 40mph and above if you have a good set of gears outback.... also when i added it up al the things i needed like a special TC, tranny cross member, drive shaft, and wiring ..... on top of that id have to have a retune bahhhh it ended up being almost the same price so i went with a built 4l60 from performabuilt...... make a list of what you want and the pros and cons of each such as cost and such

depending on your goals as far as speed is concerned i would definetly get the 400! way cheaper to build

A different tranny mount is all I had to do. My first mount was homemade for the cost of welding.

I'd hate to add 110 lbs just to get an overdrive and lockup.

RMVB and a brake on a 400.

it sounds like you made your decision before you posted. Just do the TH400 like you want to.

th400/th350 is where its at. Im in the process of swapping from a 6 speed right now. Everyone gets used to there OD and doesnt want to let it go. It wont harm the engine abit. Does everyone remember pre-1990??? There was no OD. And they made TONS of cars before 1990. Hell a buddy of mine has a 55, drives it on the highway and interstate all the time, its at 3000 at 65. It was the norm 20 years ago. Not to mention the th400 will take everything you can throw at it, and is FAR cheaper then a 60e.

yeah in your case i would just get the t400...i on the other hand drive my car 40+ miles on the weekends to hang out with other car people and such and dont want to deal with all the little things involved with swapping in a "different" trans setup..

Quick Reply: Built 4L60E or TH400 Swap???
