Lot of threads on here saying a stall is a much better bang for the buck then gears. I don't know from experience...but i just bought a 3000 stall from reading others opinions.

Stall, with out question!!

I would even suggest more than a 3000 to get the best performance.

2nd that! Stall is alot more performance for your buck especially if he doesn't know how to set up gears himself... And I started with a 3k and wanted more so now I went PT3800 And I'm happy

Like me, most people on a budget wait till the rear blows befor upgrading but gears do compliment a stall nicely... Makes it easier for a loose stall to get the car moving which reduces slipping, less slipping= lower trans temps ... So I guess I vote for him to do both! haha

"Ford" and "friend" should never be in the same sentence

But seriously, stall. Definately. I would suggest a yank ss3600

Btw a X-ford friend of mine with a 06 gt auto swapped gears from 3.31 to 3.73 and had gone to the track 2 weeks before and then again right after the gear swap and gained nothing! E.t. or mph in the quarter! He was on the stock stall still though...

yes, with a 5 speed auto the 'need' for gears is much less imo. once its moving it has a plethora of gears to choose from, always having the 'right' one a shift away.

I have both, buy a good stall converter, pay the money. Keep an eye out on a good deal for gears. I've always wondered what makes someone buy a certain stall and want a larger one, does the car gain that much more?
