Default 4l60e problems

Ok guys I have a problem with my 3-4 gear in my 60e. At first I thought is was the dreaded 3-4 clutch pack. But now I am not sure. If you take off from a dead stop and floor the car the trans shifts perfect through all gears all the way to 100 mph but if you take off and just give normal throttle the trans is fine through 1-2 until about 30mph then the trans feels like it drops in neutral and the only way to drive it is manually shifting back to second or first gear. I wouldnt think the clutch pack would act like this. Could it be the tps or another sensor? This is on a bone stock car.

I will try to explain exactly what it is doing.

If you take off from a dead stop and floor the pedal the trans shifts to all gears, I tried this several times all the way to 100 mph and the trans is perfect. However if you drive with normal pedal when you take off the trans shifts through first and second until around 30-31mph then the engine revs like the trans is in neutral and nothing is gripping but you can manually shift back to first gear or second and the trans will drive you where you need to go in first or second. Could a tps do this? If the clutch packs were shot wouldnt they slip at wot?

I would think so, I would get a scanner on it and look at data to see whats being comanded gear wise. Also is the speedo working properly, what about the TPS?

The speedo seems to be working correctly. I have checked the tps yet I will tom. Would a bad tps make a trans do what I am describing? Have you seen this before?

Well if you get the wrong signal it could under the right conditions cause it to downshift to first, Which since theres no overun in the upper gear positons for first it would feel like neutral

When the trans is "slipping" or whatever it is doing, you can feather the pedal or floor it and it the car wont move it just revs but you can manually shift it back to second or first.

That is a unique problem. If possible can you watch what line pressures is doing. Almost sounds like you have enough boost in shift pressure to bring the band or clutch on but not enough steady state pressure to hold it on.

^Run to a local auto parts store, I.E. Autozone, and have them scan it then write down the codes.

Could it be a seal around the 3-4 drum? Someone told me that was the cause. If so is there any quick fixes for this such as lucas additive?

You need to get hold of a scanner that lets you watch data what you are expereincing is at best strange

I have no access to a scanner I guess I will have to try and find someone I can trust with one. What do you most trans shops charge to hook a scanner up for something like this? I feel like it's the seal but you never know.

Trick will be finding a shop that knows what they are looking for, While I am aware before people start jumping there are some good shops out there, There are far more parts changers who have no idea what they are doing , looking at or how they work.
But typically 40-75 dollars if they think its just a scan and in most cases no matter what they see "you will need a transmission" would be better if you could find a tuner.

I totally understand what you are saying about parts changers and that they will say I need a trans no matter what. I know of one guy that may be honest I may try him out. Im going to sell this vehicle as soon as the problem is fixed. So the cheaper the better.
