Stall too big
Lots of guys run a 4k stall Yank. I have the Circle-D 3600 but it goes 3700-3800 from what I see. It's great! I know 200 RPM doesn't sound like much but just based off my experience with this one if it is 200 more RPM moving away from the stops it is well... getting up there! I have full bolt-ons and drive mine a good bit including trips 200 miles to the beach so 4k I don't think would work for me. If you drive 20-50 miles or so then go for it.
How far you drive has nothing to do with the stall unless it is a non-lockup style.
I did DD my SS with a PT4000 Yank w/ no troubles ever. I have driven 500 miles a week at one point(over 100 mile daily to and from work).
Match your convertor to your power curve and your goal. A nitrous car likes a tighter convertor and a H/C car like rpm to match rpm band(get the rpms up and keep them there). A 3200 stall works great for a street car and my PT4000 worked wonderful for the track,shift extension was great.

Greg at FTI hooked me up with a sweet 4000rpm stall. I'm also non-lockup so how it drives on the street is very important. Darn near drives like a normal car. Very little throttle input required to get moving and maintain speed. But when I put it on the transbrake it's right at 4000 and when I mash the gas it's hold the heck on time. Me personally I may go bigger on the stall depending on how it does with the nitrous.
Moral of the story is don't be scared of a big stall. Especially if you have lockup.
Now that you tell us what transmission that makes a difference. Greg can defiinitely hook you up with a good price on a TH400 billet converter. Like I said previously I'm running a TH400 also and it stalls at 4000 off the bottle. I haven't hit it with the nitrous yet as I'm still getting all the parts together. I do want to jump it up a notch for NA, but I'm going to wait until I spray to send it to Greg. I believe he also gives 3 free restalls. I ordered a 4000 and it was dead nuts on. It's just now I wish I would have gone bigger. And my car is my daily driver. 4000lb GTO with a TH400 and a 4000 stall.
