Default Can Fluid Be Low ? Shifts softly...

Drove the car for the first time after the swap yesterday. From a stop it kinda felt like the car had a stall converter which it does not. I noticed the trans shiffting very softly. If i got on it the rpms would go high and i would have to let off to shift.

Can the line pressure be too low or something ? I am going to check the fluid today and hopefully see whats up.

Checking the fluid level is the obvious thing to look at. Do you have any codes? Also is this a new trans? If so you might want to contact your builder to see what his thoughts are. Vince

I would also say obviously check the fluid but that kinda swap did you do? New trans, used trans? If new you should as mentioned contact the builder. Oh and dont drive it anymore till you do.

used a4 trans swapped in with the ls1. My tach is off from the swap. that doesnt have anything to do with the shift points right ?

Edit: 1 more thing, does the car really need to be running to check the fluid ? Thanks guys, appreciate the help.

4.5 qts is for a service not total capacity. Depending on how much oil was in the trans and converter to begin with, will determine how much it should take. With a factory converter you should get about 10-12 qts total. Vince

oh ok. Gotta check. I know alot of fluid dumped out the tailshaft when i brought the motor home. Picked up 2 qts from the store. Gonna add slowly and keep re-checking to see where i am at.
