Default Converter help

Here's the deal...I want a converter so bad I can taste it...but Im not supposed to be doing much to the car so it needs to be kept a secret..So I am trying to find the right stall for me that will be hard to notice...the person that drives it shifts out at 2200 to 2500 rpms at the most(dont know if that will assist the decision cuz I dont really completely understand how the converter works yet)... I really want like a 3500 stall because I am told that our cars didnt like lower than 3500, haha....Would this be easily noticed? Also, I was wondering if I could get a 3200 or 3500 stall, get a programmer and soften my shifts? Is this possible, or is this a stupid question? New to converters. I have heard that if I did this I would mess the tranny up...What do you PROS recommend?? HELLPP!!

a 3000+ stall will be noticed.... (person unfamiliar will think the trans is slipping....)

this is an automatic car right??? not a stick shift? if it's a stick shift... you don't need a torque converter.. just tell the person to quit being a *****

oh ok hehe, i thought this was a company car or something for a minute there :p

IMHO a 2800 stall TC is useless... keep stock if you're not going to go higher...

Though... my first verter was a SY3500.. then a Vig3600 (aka 4200) ... and I don't think my car feels much different than stock ... so i may not be the best person to ask heheh

Hehe

First, welcome to the forums

I got my Loudmouth for $50 from a kid with a TA his parents got him. He wasn't supposed to mod it but he did a LM and other little bolt ons, wich I guess went overlooked. He also did a 3500 converter, and shortly thereafter the trans went. When it went in for warranty, the dealer told him no way. His parents wound up shelling out $3,000 for the rebuild, and the mods had to go. The future of his ownership of the car was still up in the air at that point, I have no idea if he was able to keep the car or not.

If I'm guessing right, and it is the case that you are fortionate enough to have someone helping you with your car payments etc, think about the benefits of that situation before you break the rules

Geez I sound like an old foggie!

And to answer your technical questions, no, there is nothing you can do to make the converter "unnoticable".

I've heard of a lot of trannies going because of a TC...this must happen often? Also, I pay the payments but he did help a lot on the down payment. 300 a month with 350 insurance every three months. Not to bad but hard to mod it up with these notes at my age (17). Well there goes my hopes of a converter. Thanks.

In that situation I wouldn't go with anything more than Yank's 2600 Stealth converter. You might be wise just to leave it alone for now.
