Automatic Shifter Question
Have any of you guys with an A4 car ever shortened your shifter? I like the way the short shifters look on the M6 cars and wanted to get something kind of similar. I'm aware this won't drastically increase my car's speed or shift response or whatever - I'm just looking for asthetics. If anyone has done this, please give me some tips on what to do or what route to go.
BTW - I'm posting this question in two threads - Tools/Fab & Auto Trans - not real sure which would be better.
Thank guys

I have done this. I will post pics later. All you need is a dremel and cut the metal shaft down little by little. Same goes for the plastic shaft. I used a shift **** without a button. The kind that you push down the whole ****. Make sure you find one where the base is skinny. That way you could cut it down as much as possible and be able to shift it out of park without banging the center console. I found a perfect shift **** at pep boys. It can in a kit. It is chrome with leather and says RS1 on it. The shift **** is good but the rest is garbage.

As for the shifter, it is just a process of trimming and fitting it. I just used a dremel to cut the shaft. Do it little by little. The e brake handle is from pep boys. I bought the car and the brake handle was bare metal. I have to buy a boot for it. If I were to do it, I would trim just enough of the rubber off to fit the handle in place.
