Default Strength on stock 80e?

How strong is a stock 4L80E behind an LS1 in an f-body? I was considering swapping from a th400 back to an OD trans...Mainly because I want to save the th400 and converter for a different car I want to build.

I think it mainly depends on the condition of the unit that you pick up. I have read a few threads recently on PT.N where guys installed used transmissions and just added a shift kit. They are seeing failures after a few thousand miles for what it's worth. I think the issues they are having is that the clearances in the units are not correct to begin with. Personally I would have a shop go through the unit before installing it to make sure it is right. Feel free to give us a call if need be. Here is one I was recently reading. Vince

From my understanding, it's usually the core charge that gets to cost up... but I could be wrong

I'm back.

How built of a 4L80E would folks suggest for a 500-600rwhp supercharged setup? It would be in a 4500 lb car.

My Merc should look like this in about a month:

You can build em to 800 hp without replacing any hard parts.
