Default th400 trans brake question

when i hit the button the car will roll about 2-3 feet before it engages. then if i let off the button and hit it again it engages right away. is that a sign the trans is getting tired. it makes it a little tough to stage.
thanks

May not be your problem but mine did this in my big car (69GP) and it was caused by putting the solenoid wire ground using one of the pan bolts. This happened about a year later after the original install, then I moved the ground wire to a bell housing bolt (iron block) and the problem was solved. Check the voltage going to the solenoid when it is activated.

I had the same issue and ended up running the power directly from the battery..problem solved.

I do not have a pic but simply pull the solenoid off and mash the valve. It will have a spring and it should travel freely. Also as others have mentioned make sure you have a good ground. Shame on me for assuming you had a good ground...

So this unit has an internal brake. Different story. Yes if the fluid is low it could cause a problem . At this point the proper thing to do would be install a pressure gauge and check the line.
