Exclamation 4l60e..Help please!!!

Hey guys, just need some advice. Well my motor is done and bulit top end stuff. Got heads and cam vise versa.. My stock tranny wont hold. Of course ya know that, but i need advise on what to do. Im thinking of beefing it up so it can handle the motor, but dont know where to buy a kit or all the high performance upgrades. Money a little tight. Only got about 600 to 800 to waste. Im sure the stall will be another 350 to 500.. What do ya suggest. Thanks in advance. Antonio.

Save your money for a 4L80E and drive this one until it blows up. It may actually last a little longer than you expect. Mine did, but even after going with a built 4L60E it still broke.

A good converter is going to run you more than the $350-$500 you're thinking and most likely more than the entire budget you have set aside. Last I checked a descent converter is in the $700 range and you're not going to find a shop to build your core for what you're looking to spend.

So whats the rating on a 4L80e? Do they just bolt on to my ls1 like a 4l60e would? Whats the price range? Thanks in advance. Antonio

Depending on the internals you're looking at 750-1200hp and it will bolt right up with a new crossmember from BMR, you do have to change the flexplate, converter, have the PCM segmented, add a new wiring harness and slip yoke though.

I'm not going to lie, it's not a cheap venture, but it's one that you'll never look back and say "I wish I would have used a...." or "I should have bought a....". Here's a link that goes into it a little more in depth. https://ls1tech.com/forums/automatic...l80e-swap.html

I swapped a 4L80E into my car and could not be happier. I couldn't really give you an accurate price range though, because I got everything at cost. My buddy owns a performance tranny shop!

A 4L80E is a boatload of money. I would bet that you will be more than happy with a high end 4L60E from one of the supporting vendors. That and a quality converter, although as mentioned the good ones start at about $700 and up.

Yes it is a lot of money and you are probably right about the 4L60E and converter. I just have had no luck with the 4L60E's and with the money I've spent on them, I could've done an 80E to begin with. Besides, once you drive the car with the narrow gear spread of the 80, you'll never want to go back!

Well now i got a little more money saved up. I got about 1600 dollars. Got 2 options: Option 1: Built my stock tranny **(dont know where to buy a kit and all the performance parts I need)** and go with a 3200-3800 stall. or Option 2: Find a sponsor for trannys here that can get me a quote or maybe a deal or something for a tranny and a converter combo. Need your advise guys. thanks a lot. Antonio.

If your on a budget or a time frame, then I don't think you should build it yourself if you have no experience. I would just talk to one of the sponsors and see if they can work something out with ya, FLT or Performabuilt.
