i am reading that the stock 4l80e can hold 800-900hp STOCK
im hoping to pick one up at a junkyard or a trans shop
then worry about the verter
if its all its supposed to be,
i should have enough loot saved for an awesome rebuild by the time it gives
what will i need to make this work in a 96 Firebird with ls1?
a verter from Yank? can they make one?
a special flexplate?
a spacer?
i searched
i did!!

i would search for a newer one, maybe 97 up, more fac. updates-around 93 they switched the force motor, all the newer ones use a diff voltage
there is a tag on the side that tells the year
i paid $150 and $250 for a couple 2004 units(rebuilders) and passed up a newer one that was supposed to be good for $350, but remember these things are used in large trucks, so by the time they hit the junkyards, their in need of rebuilds

what would be the consequence of having < 97?
would i have to buy $50 extra parts? $200???
ill look for 97 and up
how much should a rebuild cost?

I got my flywheel from a 6.0L that had a 4L80 tranny hooked to it, And had Circle-D build me a torque converter , And plus the 4l80e flywheel already has the spacer on it.And you will need the flywheel bolts, there longer. You need to find you a newer style tranny, I got a 04 model for my TA, They have all the update. But you can use a older style but Ive herd there not as strong and the newer ones are, But i maybe wrong tho.

If you aren't into tuning yourself then a TCI box
may be the easy way out. Self contained pretty
much, little display and touch buttons.
If you want a stock PCM to run it, you need a
"segment swap" binary which will then be a kind
of nonstandard thing (beware a dealership reflash
or an alternate tuning software). Not to mention
the half-dozen variants of '98 OS to begin with.

Yank makes a converter for it too and sells the crossmember. Check their website. As far as the flexplate goes, I went with a TCI one. No spacer needed and bonus it had 6 bolt holes for the converter and the yank had 6 also (as opposed to the standard 3), so I used all of the holes to bolt them together. I'm assuming one set of holes spaced for the 80 converter and one set 60.
