Help i lost 1st gear and Overdrive... ok i have a 1995 z28 camaro with 126k miles and and tranny built about 7k ago.... well my right transmission mount broke about 2 weeks ago, and i was babing the car till i had time to get it changed.... well today i drove from waco to houston and as soon as i got into houston i pulled away from a red light and i lost 1st gear and it was trying to take away in 3rd... i looked down at my speedo and it sits at zero.... i shifted down to 2nd and it shifted... then i went to 3rd and it shifted to 3rd then i went to OD and it stayed in 3rd.... can someone please help me out. i am now in houston and i have to work on sunday or i will lose my job.... i have no idea what went wrong... but the good news is my transmission is under warranty... if it is the tranny, then cool. but now i gotta find away to get it back to waco....\

Sounds like you are just in limp mode. I would scan for codes first it is very likley only a minor issue you can handle where you are .

if the tranny mount broke it mayhave damged the plug or the wiring harness have thatchecked

Again your best be is to scan for codes instead of making guesses

window. 90% of the tables are MPH based. If you still
see zero MPH then get under there and check wiring

we are trying to help you with the transmission only have 3rd gear this means that the trans has no power with both solenoids off gives you 3rd gear with the solenoids having no power this will give you 3rd gear most likely the trans is unplugged could have happened when the mount broke if it hit the tunnel hard enough or it could have split the wiring harness which goes across the top of the tranny and could have gotten pinched between the tranny and the tunnel

its not throwing any codes... so why would i scan it? i am going to mess around with the speedo sensor tonight to see if its broke or unplugged. and replace it.

No NONSENSE How would you know that you dont have any codes without scanning it. I have scanned many a car with no check engine light that did indeed has codes.
As for the VSS is the speedometer working ?
However no VSS would be more likley to leave you with late shifts and or no shifts while starting in first gear not third. Check wiring and harness and plug also check fuses

Ok so with me checking the harness and plug do i have to pull the tranny out?
can anyone give me a diagram where the harness goes and where the plug is?? Please

the plug will be on the passenger side of the tranny directly bihind the servo it is grey to be honest if the speedo isnt working and the tranny only has third i think something happened to the harness

if you are having some kind of electrical problemit is possible to be stuck in firstalso lets check the integrity of the tranny..unplug the tranny it should start in 3rd if it starts in first then you have a tranny problem if itstarts in 3rd then you have an electrical issue
with the car off unplug and then replug in mthe harness, However you will remain stuck in first so long as the speedo is not working. I would replace the VSS

Ok well I rented a car so I do have as much stress before. So I am taking it to my buddies shop. So I will first replace the vss. Then go from there. And btw my buddie is gunna scan the codes also

this may sound dumb but did you check the fluid level? Mine started in 2nd and would only go to 3rd, no 4th, and it was about a quart or so low. I shut the car off topped it off and everything went back to normal. My speedo worked though.
