Question TH 350 on the street

I'm no longer happy with my t56. I want a faster more consistence drag car. Car is not a daily driver. Will drive about 100 highway miles one way to drag strip 1 or 2 times a month. Car weigths 3480, runs 12.30s@113mph with 1.90s 60 fts.on nittos. 10 bolt with 4.10s. Will change gears back to 3.42s, tires to et streets and add nitrous. Will a full manual valve body live on the street, will a 2.75 first gear be a good investment? I know about the 36 element sprag, what other parts do I need to make this work. Trans and converter will be custom built. No th400 please.

I think for the amount of driving your doing, you can get a TH350 to work for you. The first problem of course will be HEAT. You will need the biggest tranny cooler you can get. Watch the tranny temp like a hawk.

The highway miles are a piece of cake, as long as you dont put crazy gears in the rearend. The city driving is where you can cook your tranny pretty quickly.

Somebody else jump in. He needs more then half baked opinion.

I would just get a TH400 for the street, mine needs a freshening after 7000 miles of hard street driving, sometimes driven to the track, will be trailored next season......

Shifts are feeling a little sloppy....

I would think that a 350 would need to get taken apart a lot more often

Care to elaborate?

Anway the th350 should be fine for what you are doing. I have done exactly what you are saying only it was 70 miles one way to the track. After 10k miles the tranny was still good as new.

As long as the TH350 has been upgraded, it can work well with a heavy car. If its just an off the shelf model that does NOT have the heavier sprag, drum, etc. Its just gonna break.
Alot of people run TH350's in heavy cars, but they also break them more often as well.

He doesn't want a TH400, then he should atleast know what he is getting into with the TH350. I run a TH400, but I also plan on hitting about 800hp sometime within the next two years. The TH350 would never last with that much horsepower in a car that weighs in at almost 3500lbs.

I dunno but that kind of money & power to require a THM-350/400 set-up I would be trailering it to the track.
This may be much for a bolt on car.
Maybe get a built 200r or 700 4 speed auto.
Just my $.02

TH350 in my LT1 Daily Driver. Fun at the track but I do miss the OD. Depending on the set up you might need more rear gear to get out of the hole as well as you used to. I did not seem to loose any but I did not gain any either. I run a 3500 Vig in mine. I would like to try a yank in the car sometime...I had an Art Carr that I replaced with this Vig unit. I thought the AC TC was not getting it done but after looking at time slips I dont know that I gave the AC unit enough time.

cyrus, i sold screamin94Z from HPJ a th350 that hes now tryin to unlaod. it needs to be built.

As far as your problem. as said above, heat is your issue. The non OD isnt really the killer, is the non-lockup converter. if your crusing below stall speed it tends to generate A LOT of heat. Crusing 40 and 95 with a 3 speed should be no problem with around a 3500 or 3600 stall if u roll through there as fast as I do. Derale has a nice 25000 GVW 16 pass cooler with a fan mounted on it for about 140$. supposed to be one of the best coolers on the market. Ive heard there is a lockup conversion kit avail, but i have yet to find one. If anyone knows of one, pls direct me to it! If theres anything I can help you with Cyrus, PM me on HPJ, i can get those derale coolers.
