Default What is the best way to ship a transmission?

Should it be boxed up or palletized? What are some good companies to use as far as shipping goes?

I think it depends on the area. Heard some widely known shipping companies dont do a good job and usually people rely on locals. I will PM a guy that gave me a great deal on shipping charges, he's a member on here too.

One way is your local freight store. They boxed mine up in a cardboard box with packing material and shipped via ground. Total weight had to be less than 150 lbs, and couldn't have any fluids inside the tranny.

Other way was via palet/ground. Again, couldn't be more than 150 lbs and couldn't have any fluids much less any smell of hydrocarbons.

Wasn't that bad. It's a lot cheaper if shipping to a business as opposed to a residence.

Sent mine strapped down to a pallet with plumber's tape (not really tape, it's a thin metal strapping). Pull up to the freight doc, fill out a shipping order and have the forklift guy come get it... Works like a charm.

Put it in a big rubbermaid tote, and fill with packing peanuts. Get insurance on it!

One, strap to a cut down pallet.

I've shipped two 5x8 pallets with 8 transmissions on each. Called fed ex frieght, paid, they emailed me shipping labels, I pulled up to the dock, handed the guy the labels, he forked them off and I was gone. Easy.

Post here what you are telling them.
It cost me $120 to ship a big block from FL to CA. Fed Ex freight.

R&L Carriers should be about $200. They will pick up at your house or shop. Get you some cheap straps from Wally World and strap the trans to the pallet. Make sure it is all drained and clear plastic wrap the unit.

I bought an 80E, it was strapped down to a pallet using those little hold down straps, then it was shrink wrapped, held in place pretty good
sometimes its cheaper to ship to a business rather than a home

Default Shippi.com

I would say the best place is Shippi.com. You can call them or quote and book online. Just make sure you use a class 85 when booking.
